Description

The Tessellated Light Ceiling defines a remarkable focal point within the five-level passenger terminal known as The North Node, a grand room traversed by passengers going to and from Concourse C, D and E. The artwork is a shallow dome that spans a 50-meter diameter supported by the roof structure transforming the daylight from its fourteen skylights. Using the geometry that speaks to 16th Century Islamic tiling, an unexpectedly non-repeating pattern simultaneously displays deep symmetry and constant diversity.

The artwork plays on the incoming light in several ways, its geometry and materials modulating the light within its depth, creating ambient luminescence, focal glows and graded washes. These interact to provide a manageable level of daylight while maintaining a highly kinetic, sparkling level of detail that will attract the attention of passengers traversing the North Node’s horizontal and vertical expanse.
