Permanently installed at the Grasslin collection in Southern Germany, Orientation consists of four super 8 film cassette loops that are projected on each of the four walls of the gallery. Each film documents a compass aligned with one of the cardinal compass points. At the center of the installation two 14’ long suspended cylindrical electromagnets violently attract and repel each other pushing viewers to the walls and into the films’ projected light.
The films document and re-present the magnetic fluctuations caused by the electromagnets, both disorienting viewers and heightening their awareness of this pervasive force in the natural world.
